Our Contemporary Dance Level 2 class is designed for dancers who have a solid foundation in contemporary dance and are eager to expand their technical ability, creativity, and expressive range. This intermediate-level class builds on the core principles of contemporary dance, including release technique, floor work, strength, and flexibility, while challenging students to deepen their understanding of movement and develop their unique artistic voice.

In Contemporary Dance Level 2, students will refine their technique by working on more advanced choreography, incorporating complex sequences, dynamic shifts of energy, and different movement qualities. The class encourages dancers to explore a variety of contemporary styles, blending elements of modern, lyrical, and post-modern techniques while continuing to build strength, flexibility, and endurance. Students will also work on improving their balance, core stability, and alignment to execute movements with greater control and fluidity.

Key elements of Contemporary Dance Level 2 include:

Refinement of technique, including advanced floor work, core strengthening, turning, and leaps.
Choreography that integrates more dynamic, intricate, and emotional movement sequences.
Development of musicality and learning how to interpret music through movement, with an emphasis on timing and rhythm.
Expression and storytelling, learning how to embody emotion and narrative through contemporary movement and performance.
Improvisation exercises that allow students to explore their creativity, pushing them to experiment with spontaneous movement and develop a deeper connection to the music.
Performance and Artistic Expression:
In Contemporary Dance Level 2, students will work on developing their performance skills, learning how to engage an audience through their movement and expression. Emphasis will be placed on improving stage presence, connecting emotionally with the music, and understanding how to convey the themes or stories within a piece. Dancers will also have opportunities to perform in class showcases, building their confidence in live performance settings.

Progression:
As students master the material in Contemporary Dance Level 2, they will be prepared to move into Level 3, where more advanced choreography and concepts such as partnering and contact improvisation will be introduced. This class also lays the foundation for students who are interested in pursuing contemporary dance at a professional level, whether through performances, competitions, or dance training programs.

If your child has not attended a Contemporary Dance class with us before, they will be assessed during their trial class to ensure they are placed in the appropriate level. Progression to the next level will be at the teacher’s discretion, ensuring each dancer’s growth is nurtured at their own pace.

Our skilled contemporary dance instructors provide individualized feedback and guidance, helping each student hone their technical abilities while fostering their creative expression. Whether preparing for exams, performances, or simply refining their contemporary dance technique, Contemporary Dance Level 2 offers a challenging and supportive environment to help dancers continue to grow both artistically and technically.
