Our Tap Grade 1 class is the perfect starting point for young dancers who are new to tap or have some basic experience. This class focuses on developing fundamental tap skills, including rhythm, footwork, and musicality, while introducing students to the joy and energy of this lively dance style. Tap Dance Grade 1 is designed to help students build a solid foundation for more advanced tap technique in a fun, supportive, and creative environment.
In Tap Grade 1, dancers will learn key steps such as shuffles, flaps, ball changes, and cramp rolls, while working to improve their timing, coordination, and balance. The class emphasizes developing a strong sense of rhythm and learning how to produce clean, clear sounds with their tap shoes. Students will also focus on building muscle memory for these steps through repetition and exploring the different sounds that can be created with their feet.
Key elements of Tap Grade 1 include:
Introduction to basic tap steps like shuffles, flaps, ball changes, and cramp rolls.
Development of rhythm and musicality, learning how to move in time with the music and interpret different rhythms.
Building footwork precision to ensure clarity of sound and control while tapping.
Learning to connect steps into simple combinations and patterns, improving coordination and flow.
Exploration of timing and how to vary rhythms to create different tap sounds and effects.
Basic performance skills, including engaging with the music and expressing energy and personality through the movements.
Performance and Expression:
In Tap Grade 1, students will begin to explore how to express themselves through tap dance. With an emphasis on rhythm and sound, students will also learn how to connect with the music, adding their unique flair to each step. As they continue to improve, students will have opportunities to perform in class showcases, helping to build their confidence as performers.
Progression:
Upon completing Tap Grade 1, students will be prepared to move into Tap Grade 2, where they will continue to develop more complex rhythms, steps, and combinations. This class is an ideal choice for dancers who wish to pursue tap dancing in a structured environment, whether for exams, performance opportunities, or as part of a broader dance training program.
If your child has not attended a Tap class with us before, they will be assessed during their trial class to ensure they are placed in the appropriate level. Progression to the next level will be at the teacher’s discretion, ensuring each student’s development is nurtured at the appropriate pace.
Our experienced tap instructors provide personalized feedback and guidance, focusing on building confidence, rhythm, and precision. Whether preparing for exams or simply enjoying the rhythm and energy of tap dance, Tap Grade 1 offers a fun and exciting way to introduce young dancers to the world of tap.
