Venue Notes
Classes are held in the George Young Hall OR Dining Room

Our Contemporary Dance Level 3 class is designed for dancers who have developed a strong foundation in contemporary techniques and are ready to challenge themselves with more complex movements, improvisation, and choreography. This class pushes students to explore their physicality, creativity, and emotional expression while refining their technical abilities. It’s ideal for dancers who are committed to deepening their contemporary dance practice and expanding their movement vocabulary.

In Contemporary Dance Level 3, students will build on skills such as release technique, floor work, strength, flexibility, and alignment. The class will emphasize more intricate floor sequences, partner work, and dynamic shifts in weight. Dancers will also work on improving their jumping, turning, and balance as they continue to develop core strength and control.

A significant focus of this class is on creative expression and choreographic development. Students will learn how to incorporate improvisation into their dance practice, using it as a tool for creativity and self-expression. The class also encourages dancers to explore different contemporary dance styles, including modern, lyrical, and post-modern techniques, allowing them to discover their own unique style and approach to movement.

Key elements of Contemporary Dance Level 3 include:

Advanced floor work and contact improvisation to explore movement from the ground up and improve fluidity and control.
Artistic expression, with a focus on interpreting themes and emotions through dance and developing a personal connection to the movement.
Complex choreography that incorporates dynamic transitions, levels, and spatial awareness.
Improvisation exercises to encourage dancers to explore spontaneity and creativity in movement.
Developing a strong understanding of musicality and how to connect movement to the rhythm, tempo, and emotional tone of the music.
Performance and Choreography:
In addition to technical development, Contemporary Dance Level 3 places emphasis on performance skills and how to bring a piece to life on stage. Dancers will work on performance quality, learning how to engage an audience, and develop strong stage presence. Choreography will be an integral part of the class, with students having the opportunity to work on group and solo pieces, preparing them for potential performances and showcases.

Progression:
Upon completing Contemporary Dance Level 3, students will be prepared for Level 4, where they will continue to refine their technique and take on even more advanced choreography and performance opportunities. This class also serves as a strong foundation for those interested in pursuing professional contemporary dance, entering dance college programs, or preparing for performances and competitions.

If your child has not attended a Contemporary Dance class with us before, they will be assessed during their trial class to ensure they are placed in the appropriate level. Progression to the next level will be at the teacher’s discretion, based on skill development and readiness.

Our highly skilled contemporary dance instructors provide personalized feedback, helping each student improve their technique, deepen their artistry, and gain the confidence to express themselves through dance. Whether working toward an exam, a performance, or simply refining their skills, Contemporary Dance Level 3 offers a challenging yet supportive environment for dancers to grow and excel.
