Our Tap Grade 2 class is designed for dancers who have mastered the basics of tap dance and are ready to take their skills to the next level. Building on the fundamentals, this class focuses on refining technique, improving rhythm, and expanding the dancer’s vocabulary of tap steps. Students will work on developing both their technical ability and musicality, while continuing to have fun with the infectious energy that tap dance brings.

In Tap Grade 2, dancers will focus on mastering more advanced steps, including pick-ups, flaps, shuffles, and ball changes, while working on improving their timing, balance, and footwork precision. This class places emphasis on articulation and clarity of sounds, with students learning to execute more complex rhythms and combinations with control and speed. Through a variety of exercises and routines, dancers will also work on developing their coordination, speed, and endurance.

Key elements of Tap Grade 2 include:

Refinement of technique, focusing on the clarity and precision of tap steps like pick-ups, flaps, and shuffles.
Timing and rhythm development, learning to execute increasingly complex patterns with accuracy and musicality.
Building speed and endurance to improve fluidity and control while performing fast tap combinations.
Learning new tap steps and expanding the dancer's tap vocabulary, allowing them to execute more intricate sequences.
Expression and performance as students learn to connect with the rhythm and perform with dynamic energy and personality.
Musicality, understanding how to express different musical styles and rhythms through tap and work with various tempos and time signatures.
Performance and Expression:
As part of Tap Grade 2, students will begin to develop a strong sense of stage presence and performance quality. They will learn how to project their energy and personality through their tapping, creating engaging performances for themselves and their audience. Students will have opportunities to perform in class showcases and demonstrations, gaining confidence as performers.

Progression:
Upon completing Tap Grade 2, students will be prepared to move into Tap Grade 3, where they will continue to build on their skills, adding more advanced steps, rhythms, and choreography. This class is also an excellent choice for dancers who are working toward their Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) Tap examinations or other tap assessments, as it offers a structured curriculum to support their progress.

If your child has not attended a Tap class with us before, they will be assessed during their trial class to ensure they are placed in the appropriate level. Progression to the next level will be at the teacher’s discretion, ensuring each dancer’s growth and readiness for more advanced material.

Our experienced tap instructors provide feedback and guidance, helping each student refine their technique and express themselves through rhythm. Whether preparing for an exam, a performance, or simply honing their tap skills, Tap Grade 2 offers a challenging yet supportive environment for dancers to flourish.
